MSR inspection is stressful. Here's a step-by-step playbook that HODs use to walk in prepared, not panicking.

Six weeks out

  • Pull the department-wide competency completion report
  • Identify residents behind on procedures
  • Schedule catch-up sessions

Two weeks out

  • Verify every resident's thesis is on track
  • Check faculty sign-off pendency
  • Print backup reports as PDFs

The day of

Inspectors typically spend 30–45 minutes per department. Have the following ready on a single screen: competency dashboard, resident count, procedure log, faculty attendance.

What's the most common inspection failure point?

Missing faculty sign-off. Even when residents do the work, if the trail isn't signed, it doesn't count.

How long does an MSR inspection take?
